For many years, our school has supported Catholic Charities’ Refugee Resettlement Program with the Adopt-a-Family project. Parent-volunteer “Spiritual Angels” visit classrooms to explain how OLA, through Catholic Charities, can help refugee families. Our generous parents donate items fulfilling basic needs, and we pray together for these families as they start their new lives.

Yesterday, one of our fifth grade classes had the pleasure of hearing the story of a real refugee, Mr. Ernest Pick, a neighbor of one of our OLA families. Mr. Pick came to this country when he was four years old, fleeing World War II. He traveled alone across the Atlantic to meet his parents in New York City who came ahead of him to get established. The children were very interested and asked many questions. We are very grateful to Mr. Pick for sharing his story.
