What does the screening involve?

Screening at Our Lady of the Assumption School is a brief process that evaluates a student’s academic achievement in reading, math, and written expression.  Younger children who apply to Pre-K or Kindergarten are seen in small groups.  Their pre-requisite skills (e.g., language, visual discrimination, fine motor development) are assessed.  Standardized tests are used and the results are shared with the parents. For grades 1-8, this is done individually with the student using well-normed tests and usually takes one to one and one-half hours.  The standard scores and percentiles that result compare a child to other students at his or her same chronological age and are shared with the parents.
