Battle of the Books
OLA Catholic School will participate for the seventh year in the Battle of the Books competition. This is a fun program that many public school systems have been involved with in the past, and the schools in the Archdiocese of Atlanta decided to try it in 2002.

All third, fourth, and fifth grades are included again this year. Sixth grade participation will be optional.

Battle of the Books is a reading motivation “contest”. Students are given a list of books to read over the course of a few months in preparation for a final competition.  The homeroom teachers assign the students to teams of three or four students, and students name their groups. The teacher and librarian then monitor the groups’ progress over the next few months. (Each student does not have to read all of the books — one idea is that the group can divide the book list and assign certain books to certain members.
The point is that all the books must be read by someone in the group.)

Sometime in April, OLA Catholic School will hold the local competition. The questions are in a “Jeopardy style” format. Winners from each grade level will advance to the Archdiocesan competition.
