Band — Catholic Schools Youth Band is a band made up of several schools that feed into Saint Pius High School. While our objective is partly to be a feeder band to St. Pius, we encourage all students to join the group. We have a Winter concert and a Spring Concert. Basketball — Students in grades K thru 8 may participate in the parish basketball program. Field Day — An annual day of athletic competition and fun in the spirit of good sportsmanship that is arranged by appropriate grade levels under the direction of the P.E. teacher. Literary Magazine — Great Inspirations — The Literary Magazine Staff is responsible for design and layout of the literary magazine. The literary magazine is comprised of student artwork and literary entries chosen by the Faculty Advisors. It is open to 6th grade students. Literary magazines are distributed each year in early May. National Junior Honor Society — Students in grades 7 and 8 who meet requirements for Scholarship, Leadership, Service, Character and Citizenship during two consecutive quarters are eligible for membership in the NJHS. The selection of members is determined by a majority vote of the Faculty Executive Council of the Our Lady of the Assumption School Honor Society New Student Orientation Program — New students in grades 4-8 are assigned a peer to help orient them to the school. Activities are planned to help the students feel welcome and to help provide a smooth transition to the new school year. Oratorical Contest — Students in grades 6-8 participate in the annual OLA Oratorical contest. Winners are eligible to compete on the Archdiocesan level and go on to the state competition. Peace Patrol — Peace Patrol was established to promote problem solving and conflict resolution between our students. Students who are on the Peace Patrol are trained in conflict resolution and are then assigned a recess duty each week. Peace Patrol is open to students in grades 5-8. Safety Patrol — Scouts — Boy Scouts, Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Brownies are parish programs open to all students. Spelling Bee — The students in grades 4-8 participate in the annual OLA Spelling Bee. The winner is eligible to participate on the Archdiocesan level and state level. Student Council — Student Council represents grades 5-8. They meet on a bi-weekly basis to discuss and plan for ways that the students can be more involved in the school and promote school spirit. The Student Council plans the Middle School dances, which are held quarterly. They also run the school store (located in the Development Director's office). Yearbook — The Yearbook Staff is responsible for the design and layout of the yearbook. The Photo Staff is a part of the Yearbook Staff, and they are responsible for taking the photographs for the yearbook. The staff is made up of 7th and 8th grade students. Yearbooks are distributed each year in early May. USE OF GROUNDS Our Lady of the Assumption School is a ministry of the OLA Parish and occupies buildings belonging to the parish. Parents wishing to use the buildings before, during, or after school for strictly school-related purposes must seek permission from the principal. Parents wishing to use the building for non-school related activates (scouts, sports, etc.) must seek permission through the parish office. |
