Media Center Policies

Our Media Center is open during school hours, from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM, except on Wednesdays, when we close at 2:00 PM.

1. Students are responsible for checking out and returning materials on time. A date is stamped on the material for the student's information — there is a two week check out period for books; magazines (current issue excepted) will check out for a one week period.

2. Students are responsible for returning materials in good condition and paying for any material that is lost or damaged. If a book is lost, the replacement cost will be the actual price of the book, with a minimum of $10.00. A flat fee of $5.00 will be charged for any lost magazine.

3. Report cards and progress reports will be held in the Principal's office until all lost fees are paid.

4. There will be no overdue fines.

5. Overdue materials are handled in the following manner. Reports that list students who have overdue materials are given to the classroom teacher every Wednesday. A pink overdue notice is also sent home in the Thursday folder. The overdue report lists the number of days that a student's Media Center material is overdue. The first two times that a student's name appears on the list, the classroom teacher will remind the student to return the material. If the material is not returned, and the student's name appears on the list for a third time, the student's library privileges will be frozen, and a letter will be sent home. If the student's name appears on the list for a fourth time, another letter is sent home, and the student's parents are called. If the student's name appears on the list a fifth time, a citation will be issued. After a student's name has appeared on the list twice, reports cards and progress reports will be held in the Principal's office until the overdue material has been returned, or lost fees paid.

6. Students who wish to use the Internet in the Media Center will use it for educational purposes only, have a signed Acceptable Use Policy on file at the school, read and agree to the Student Internet Guidelines, and have a fully filled out Internet Research Passport for each use.

7. All students must have a Media Center Contract, signed by both student and parent, on file before using the Media Center.
